About Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels are offered at Bensimon Center in our Portland, OR clinic by world authority and peeling expert Dr. Richard Bensimon. We provide you with numerous options to improve the look and health of your skin. Our BensiBright, BensiPearl and our well known BensiPeel chemical peels create real change in the appearance of your skin by improving pigmentation, reversing sun damage and improving fine and deep lines and wrinkles depending on the type of peel performed.   Milder peels for improvement of pigmentation may contain natural acid ingredients such as glycolic, salicylic, lactic, and retinoic acids to give you healthier, smoother skin.  At our Portland, OR office, plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Bensimon and his aesthetic team offers chemical peel treatments that help to minimize skin irregularities, such as wrinkles, scars, fine lines, dry patches, hyperpigmentation issues, and more. Chemical peels dissolve damaged, dead skin cells with a special treatment on your skin, which causes the visible layer to peel or slough off. As your skin heals and begins to rejuvenate and repair itself, you will notice a clearer, smoother complexion. A chemical peel treatment is a noninvasive option to make your skin younger, healthier and luminous.

Variations of Chemical Peels

At our Portland, OR office, we offer chemical peels in several strengths (light, medium, and deep) to accommodate our patients' skin care needs and goals.

Light peels: You can have a light chemical peel on a lunch hour and go right back to your day. This type of peel will remove the top layer of your skin (the epidermis), giving your facial features a brighter appearance and softer texture. We typically suggest that you schedule a light peel at least once a month for the best glowing results. BensiBright is an example of an effective milder peel.

Medium-depth peels: This type of chemical peel goes deeper into your skin, and you'll usually prefer to do this type of facial rejuvenation treatment over a long weekend. You may also want to prepare yourself for more discomfort during and about an hour after treatment. Medium-depth peels are for patients who have significant damage to their skin, like deeper wrinkles and darker pigmentation issues. BensiPearl can offer a significant improvement in pigmentation and can be used on all skin types.

Deep peels: The most advanced of the three types of chemical peels is the deep peel, and it will require the longest recovery time. This is an aggressive treatment that may leave your face  reddened for a  6+ weeks that is easily covered with make-up. Patients who have a deep peel (BensiPeel) may have dark age spots, leathery, sun-damaged skin and deep etched wrinkles.  As this type of peel is generally stimulating during a full face peel, IV sedation is given to keep you comfortable.  Segmental BensiPeels ( around the eyes or smaller areas of the face) can be performed comfortably while awake.

BensiPeel™: Created by Dr. Bensimon, the BensiPeel is a revolutionary, deep chemical peel that significantly improves moderate to severe wrinkles and sun damage. The results create a smooth, youthful appearance for a radiant and glowing profile. Healthier skin has never been more attainable than with the BensiPeel.

Procedure Technique

On the day of your milder- moderate chemical peel procedure at Bensimon Center, we will have you lying down in a relaxed position to administer your peel. We will make sure your skin is cleansed before applying the customized solution to your face and/or neck. We will apply the solution onto your face and let it set for a specific amount of time, which will be discussed in your treatment planning session. You may want to bring a hat to wear outside after the treatment to avoid sun exposure.

Chemical Peel What to Expect

Depending on the type of the peel you have, you can expect your skin to peel from a few days to a couple weeks. Dr. Bensimon or a member of his team will discuss how to care for your skin during your appointment. Please keep in mind that no matter how tempting during the healing process, it is never a good idea to pull the skin off. You could cause scarring to your facial skin!  BensiPeel deep chemical peel requires a special mask to be worn on the face in the early recovery period and will be discussed in detail at the time of your consult with Dr. Bensimon

For milder skin conditions and early aging, a lighter peel may be better to try and see how you like the results. Will my face hurt after a chemical peel?
Depending on the peel used, you may have some mild discomfort when it is on your skin. If you get a lighter peel, you will feel some tingling but it goes away quickly . Medium and deep peels such as the BensiPeel are good for deeper skin damage and longer-lasting results, but they can be more invasive. Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?
A chemical peel may be combined with another nonsurgical skin treatment at Bensimon Center. A popular combination for the BensiPeel ( a deeper chemical peel) is the addition of fat injection at the time of the peel to restore volume and help the peel heal.  During your consultation, be honest with Dr. Bensimon about your skin and cosmetic concerns so he can create a comprehensive treatment plan that delivers your best results. This may include adding injectable wrinkle treatments like BOTOX, DYSPORT Restylane, Juvederm or Sculptra along with your chemical peel to rejuvenate your whole appearance.
