Liposuction

My name is Richard Bensimon. I'm a plastic surgeon in Portland, Oregon, and I'd like to introduce the topic of liposuction by mentioning a personal story. Some years ago, I found myself heavier than I wanted to be and I went on a diet. I lost about 35 pounds over a year, but I knew I was not going to lose my belly that I've had all my life, even in college when I was much thinner. I knew, as a plastic surgeon, that liposuction was the answer. I had liposuction. Those extra fat cells that gave me a bulge were removed and it gave me the shape that I wanted. It is now permanent because you cannot regain the cells that you've lost and it is fantastic. I know firsthand the beauty of liposuction. The most common areas of liposuction are the abdomen, waist, and hips. In women, the outer thighs is very common. In men, the flanks, abdomen also, and in men, the breasts. We call it gynecomastia. This is an approach that can be, most of the time, altered very successfully with liposuction.
I have special cannulas that I've designed that have increased the efficacy and the success of liposuction. These cannulas promote greater skin contraction in a smooth surface, and we're very, very pleased with them. This is an operation that often we can do without formal anesthesia, depending on the patient's choice, but always with mild anesthesia. The recovery is easy. The results are predictable, and it's often life changing. They feel comfortable with more tight clothing and it's fun to see them come into the office wearing the fashions that they never would have otherwise.
